REPORT FROM THE PROVISEURE
Dear Parents and Carers,
International French Teachers’ Day 2024
International French Teachers’ Day brings together educators who teach French and those teaching in French within bilingual programmes around the world. Once again this year, French and Australian staff from Telopea were invited to the common room on Thursday, November 21, to share a convivial moment over a game, while enjoying a croissant or a pain au chocolat from Lilette Bakery (Dickson).
Staff was invited to guess and (re)discover major Francophone literary works from the 20th century and today. This activity celebrated the transmission and preservation of Francophone culture across generations. French teachers play a pivotal role as champions of the French language and literature. This activity encouraged them to pass on this literary wealth to others, while strengthening ties between Francophone and non-Francophone cultures, particularly in Australia. A moment of shared passion for the French language, which continues to shine throughout the world thanks to dedicated educators!

NOTE DU PROVISEURE

PRIMARY NEWS
Summer is around the corner
Summer is slowly approaching with more sunshine, longer days and the sweet thoughts of summer activities and holidays to come.
At Telopea Park School, this time of year is also, and above all, the time when four group of 2025 Kindergarten students visit our school with their parents. For an hour and a half, children explore the classroom and their future playground, while their parents learn about the specific features of the Franco-Australian programme that make the Lycée Franco-Australien such a unique school.
During the same week, our current Kindergarten students discover a new environment as they spend some time in a Year 1 classroom, observe the displays, meet the teachers, and share a very instructive moment with their Year 1 peers who are keen to present their work, readings or working routines.
This time of year is also the time for rehearsals and end-of-year celebrations (concerts, assemblies, Y6 graduation, etc.), and everyone is on deck to make the most of these moments, making sure to end the school year on a high note and get ready for the summer break, before returning in 2025, refreshed and energised.
Here are two important dates for 2025:
- Monday 3 February: first day of school for Kindergarten students and new students,
- Tuesday 4 February: first day of school for all students.
Summer reading
Once again this year, and for the second year running, we are delighted to offer a French book to our students. Teachers have selected age-appropriate books from Lire c'est Partir. We thank our P&C for their support this year.
If you’d like to purchase more books for the summer, you can also get in touch with Anne and Jacques, who are also known here in Australia for their Van du Livre / French books on wheels, travelling across Australia to bring language and culture to schools.
Anne, Australia’s Bayard Jeunesse representative, informed us that a new feature has been introduced on the Bayard Monde online store, which now enables schools to get free subscriptions.
Subscriptions made on the Bayard Monde online store:
www.boutique.bayard-monde.com (Representative Code E20) can now be linked to our school. Parents can therefore subscribe to the best export rates and select LYCEE FRANCO-AUSTRALIEN DE CANBERRA in the drop-down menu so that the school receives a free 6-month subscription for every 10 subscriptions sold.
Since this feature was introduced, two subscriptions have already been linked to our school. These will be added to the current subscriptions available in each class. Our students enjoy reading a variety of magazines!
14 November, World Diabetes Day
We were all dressed in blue on Thursday 14 November to mark this special day and to share, at least in our thoughts, the daily lives of people living with diabetes. During our mid-term assemblies, we had three talented ambassadors who spoke to their classmates about the disease and how to live with it. Thank you for informing us, Remy, Olive and Hazel! You are so brave!
HUMANITIES FACULTY
Dear Parents and Carers,
This year, The Remembrance Day Ceremony at Telopea Park School was a tribute to honour those who served and sacrificed in wars and conflicts, in particular ex-students and families who have served. Held on November 11, the event brought together students, staff, and community members to reflect on the significance of the day with special guests present from the Police, Armed Services and French Embassy. The ceremony closed with a rendition of the Last Post, followed by a minute of silence, symbolising respect for the fallen. We thank all members of the community and in particular, Individuals and Societies teacher Francis Ventura for all of their efforts in making the ceremony possible.

Maths Challenge question to consider at home…
On my last birthday, my friend said to me:
"In 15 years' time, your age will be the square of your age 15 years ago!"
Can you work out how old I am?
The answer to this problem can be found in community news section.
SECONDARY LIBRARY NEWS
Telopea and the library staff wish to welcome our new Library assistant, Hieu Nguyen, to the library and school. She has been with us for a while working casually for A3 but has happily taken on the permanent position here in the library with us as both Library Assistant and Sick Bay/First Aid. We are delighted to have her in the library, and we wish her all the best in her new position.
We have also finally got all our new furniture, as well as some great new information and art signs for the library. Many students and staff have been delighted with the new tables and sofas, and we welcome any suggestions for improvements.
Only November to go, to finish the Telopea Reading Challenges for both students and staff. It was fantastic to have our Chief Minister Readers get their completion certificates at the beginning of term 3, and we look forward to those students who are also going to complete the Bookworm and Genre reading challenges.
With the year slowly coming to a close, we wish to remind everyone that we are happy to loan out books to year 6-9 students for the Christmas holidays, and that the E-library is available all holidays as well, just hop on to Oliver in your Backpack, and you’ll find loads of wonderful E-books and audio book titles.
And lastly in Weeks 8 and 9 the library will be conducting their annual stocktake. Please remember to return any not needed and overdue items and keep out of areas that have been cordoned off for stocktake, thank-you.
