PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

Dear parents and carers

The year is well and truly underway. The vibe at the school shows us that students are fully engaged in their learning and taking opportunities to engage with school activities.

In the weeks before students started at the school, our staff were engaged in their own professional learning. Some of our new educators to the ACT attended a week of induction and professional learning at Shirly Smith School. They then followed that up with their colleagues here at Telopea Park School. Our secondary staff were joined by secondary teachers at Gold Creek School as we undertook a range of workshops as part of our International Baccalaureate requirements. The primary staff engaged in learning relating to the school PBL supports, data and our French staff looked new requirements from the French government. We were all exhausted, but it is a gentle reminder about how our students feel at the end of their first few days back at school too.

These opening weeks have certainly been busy. On the first day we welcomed new (and returning) students to the school. With 84 kindergarten and 271 year 7 students the day was full of activity and noise. We also welcomed students from other year groups, who participated in tours of the school before heading home with their families. In total we currently have 568 students in the primary school and 1051 in the secondary school.

Our school values set the foundation for all interactions:

Our teachers and support staff continue to work with students to encourage and support students in classes and in our pastoral care sessions. Please do not hesitate to reach out to our wellbeing staff should you have any key questions or concerns. Keren Briggs leads our student support in the primary area and Ebony Moro leads student services in the secondary area. Additionally, each year group in the secondary area have year coordinators who can be contacted relating to specific student queries.

A reminder that students should not have mobile phones out during the school day. This means that no phones should be used either in class or during break time, including purchasing food at the canteen.

Safety at and around the school

A reminder to all parents/carers of the school hours.

Our school day starts at 9:00am and finishes at 3:15pm. Supervision does not start until 30 mins before the start of the school day and 30 mins after the end of the day. Students engaged in the after-school program will follow those processes as per agreement with individual parents.

Staff are vigilant in relation to keeping students safe during the school day. The school gates are locked at 9:00am. If students arrive late, they should come into the school via the front office and for students in high school, they should then make their way to A3 to sign in and primary students then head to the primary office.

Please drive carefully when dropping off and collecting children. This is an exceptionally busy school with very little parking available. Please also be aware that except during the day no students should be coming into or leaving the school via the front office. We all have a part to play in keeping students safe around the school. Please also remind your children about safe behaviour when near and/or crossing roads.

Canteen

La Cantine is continuing to provide canteen services for term 1. This term the menu includes dietary information which should help families make choices around lunch orders and canteen purchases. In the school holidays the canteen space also had a refresh that included an upgrade to the grease trap.

A team, including a representative from our P&C, will work with the Education Directorate’s Support Office to undertake an expression of interest process for canteen services at the school this term.

Principal Position

As most of you are aware, I was placed temporarily at Telopea Park School while a process is undertaken to employ a permanent principal at the school. This process has now been advertised, and the Directorate will keep the community informed of the outcomes of this process once it is completed. I look forward to working with the community during this time and hopefully into the future.

NOTE DE LA PRINCIPALE

Chères familles,

L'année est bel et bien entamée. L'ambiance qui règne à l'école nous montre que les élèves sont pleinement engagés dans leur apprentissage et qu'ils saisissent toutes les occasions de participer aux activités de l'école.

Dans les semaines qui ont précédé la rentrée, les enseignants ont participé à des formations professionnelles. Certains de nos nouveaux enseignants ont participé à une semaine d'initiation et de formation à la Shirly Smith School. Ils ont ensuite poursuivi cette formation avec leurs collègues du lycée franco-australien/Telopea Park School. Les enseignants du secondaire ont été rejoints par les enseignants de la Gold Creek School pour participer à une série d'ateliers requis par l’organisation du baccalauréat international. Les enseignants du primaire se sont engagés dans une formation aux supports PBL de l'école, aux données et nos enseignants français se sont penchés sur les nouvelles exigences de l’Éducation Nationale française. Nous étions tous bien fatigués, mais c'est un bon rappel de ce que ressentent nos élèves à la rentrée scolaire.

Ces premières semaines ont été très chargées. Le premier jour, nous avons accueilli les nouveaux (et les anciens) élèves. Avec 84 élèves de Grande Section de Maternelle et 271 élèves de 5e année, la journée a été riche en activités et en animation. Nous avons également accueilli des élèves d'autres niveaux qui ont participé à des visites de l'école avant de rentrer chez eux avec leur famille. Nous avons actuellement 568 élèves à l'école primaire et 1051 à l'école secondaire.

Valeurs et attentes de l'école

Les valeurs de notre école constituent le fondement de toutes les interactions:

Nos enseignants et les assistants d’éducation continuent à travailler avec les élèves pour les encourager et les soutenir en classe et lors de nos sessions d’heure de vie scolaire. Pour toute question, n'hésitez pas à contacter notre équipe chargée du bien-être des élèves. Keren Briggs dirige la vie scolaire du primaire et Ebony Moro celle du secondaire. En outre, chaque groupe d'élèves du secondaire dispose de coordinateurs de niveau qui peuvent être contactés pour des questions spécifiques concernant les élèves.

Nous vous rappelons que les élèves ne doivent pas avoir de téléphone portable sur eux pendant la journée. Cela signifie qu'aucun téléphone ne doit être utilisé en classe ou pendant les pauses, y compris pour acheter à manger à la cantine.

Sécurité à l’école et aux abords de l’établissement

Nous rappelons aux familles les horaires de l'école:

Notre journée commence à 9h00 et se termine à 15h15. La surveillance est assurée 30 minutes avant le début des cours et 30 minutes après la fin des cours. Les élèves inscrits à la garderie du soir suivront les procédures telles qu’elles ont été convenues avec les parents.

Le personnel est vigilant quant à la sécurité des élèves pendant la journée. Les portes de l'école sont fermées à 9h00. Si les élèves arrivent en retard, ils doivent entrer par l’accueil principal et, les élèves du secondaire doivent ensuite se rendre au bureau A3 pour émarger. et les élèves du primaire se rendent ensuite au secrétariat du primaire.

Nous vous demandons de conduire prudemment lorsque vous déposez ou récupérez vos enfants. Il s'agit d'une école très fréquentée où les places de stationnement sont très limitées. Nous avons tous un rôle à jouer pour assurer la sécurité des élèves aux abords de l'école. Veuillez également rappeler à vos enfants qu'ils doivent adopter un comportement prudent lorsqu'ils se trouvent à proximité d'une route ou qu'ils la traversent.

Cantine

La Cantine continue de fournir ses services de cantine au 1er trimestre. Ce trimestre, le menu comprend des informations diététiques qui devraient aider les familles à choisir les repas à la cantine. Pendant les vacances scolaires, l'espace de la cantine a également été rafraîchi, avec notamment le changement d’un filtre à graisse de meilleure qualité.

Une équipe, comprenant un représentant de l’association de parents d’élèves P&C,  travaillera avec la Direction de l’Éducation pour mettre en place ce trimestre le processus d’expression d’intérêt pour les services de cantine de l'école.

Poste de Principal

Comme la plupart d'entre vous le savent, j'ai été nommée temporairement au lycée franco-australien de Canberra/Telopea Park School le temps qu’un ou une principal soit nommé. Cette procédure a maintenant été entamée et la Direction de l’Éducation tiendra la communauté informée du résultat une fois qu'elle sera achevée. Je me réjouis de travailler avec la communauté pendant cette période et, je l'espère, à l'avenir.

PRIMARY NEWS

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to extend a sincere welcome to the 2025 school year.  I am excited to continue leading partnerships between our students, parents and carers, and staff to provide wonderful binational education and allow every student to continue to achieve their best.  I hope that you had a wonderful summer holiday, and all the children have settled happily into their new classes.  It was delightful seeing our new and returning students starting the school year with enthusiasm and excitement and I am confident our new students will quickly become connected to our great community of learners.  Please be reminded that school begins promptly at 9.00am and finishes at 3.15pm and we ask that your children are on time to begin the routines of their school day. 

We have had little change in our teaching community although there has been some rearrangement of the years our teachers are working.  Hebe Petkovic has substantially won her position as Executive Teacher 4-6 and I am excited to see her continuing her excellent and innovative leadership of these teaching teams.  We have welcomed Zoe Twist as a full time Year 3 teacher and Marion Mermillod-Blondin (FLSCo) and I look forward to our staff continuing to share their expertise within their teaching teams and improving student educational and wellbeing outcomes.

There will be lots of information coming to you and your children over the coming weeks including excursions, sporting events and extra-curricular opportunities.  We will be holding a Primary “Meet the Teachers/Parents” session on Monday 17^th February, 2024 with semester overviews and class specific information being shared and will use Class Dojo to confirm time and arrangements soon.  Jodie Stewart (Executive Teacher K-3) will also lead a parents and carers Volunteer Information and Induction session and we welcome anyone joining this large group of people who generously give their time to support our students.  Years 5 and 6 Arts Rotations will begin in Week 2 with students moving through term long subjects with a showcase at the end of every term.  Additional educational supports including EAL/D, FLSco, MiniLit and Bonus Class will also commence in Week 3 with individual information being communicated via the relevant staff.

NOUVELLES DU PRIMAIRE

Chères familles,

 Bienvenue en cette année scolaire 2025. Quel plaisir de continuer à travailler main dans la main avec nos élèves, les familles, et le personnel, afin d'offrir une excellente éducation binationale et de permettre à chaque élève de continuer à donner le meilleur de lui-même. J'espère que vous avez passé d’excellentes vacances et que tous les enfants se sentent bien dans leur nouvelle classe. J'ai été ravie de revoir nos élèves et de faire connaissance avec les nouveaux, tous enthousiastes et heureux de commencer l'année scolaire. Je suis convaincue que nos nouveaux élèves s'intégreront rapidement à notre belle communauté scolaire. Nous vous rappelons que l'école commence à 9h00 et se termine à 15h15 et nous demandons à vos enfants d'être à l'heure pour bien démarrer leur journée avec les routines scolaires mises en place.

Peu de changements sont à noter au sein de notre communauté d'enseignants, bien qu'il y ait eu quelques ajustements pour les niveaux de classe attribués aux enseignants. Hebe Petkovic a amplement mérité son poste d'executive teacher pour les niveaux CM1 (Y4) à 6e (Y6) et je suis ravie de la voir poursuivre son rôle auprès des enseignants, forte d’une pédagogie excellente et innovante. Nous avons accueilli Zoe Twist en tant qu'enseignante à temps plein en CE2 (Y3) et Marion Mermillod-Blondin (FLSCo). Je suis ravie de voir les enseignants continuer à partager leur expertise au sein de leurs équipes et à améliorer l’éducation et le bien-être des élèves.

De nombreuses informations vous parviendront, ainsi qu'à vos enfants, au cours des prochaines semaines, notamment sur les sorties, les événements sportifs et les activités extrascolaires. Nous organiserons une réunion de parents le lundi 17 février 2024 au cours de laquelle les enseignants détailleront le contenu enseigné chaque semestre et donneront des informations spécifiques à chaque classe. Nous utiliserons Class Dojo pour vous communiquer de plus amples détails.  Jodie Stewart, executive teacher de Grande Section (K) à CE2 (Y3) dirigera également une session d'information pour les nouveaux volontaires et nous souhaitons ainsi la bienvenue à tous ceux qui rejoignent cette merveilleuse communauté qui donne généreusement de son temps pour soutenir nos élèves. Les rotations artistiques des élèves de CM2 et 6e commenceront en semaine 2 et dureront chacune le temps d’un trimestre, avec une présentation à la fin de chaque trimestre. Les dispositifs éducatifs supplémentaires, notamment EAL/D, FLSco, MiniLit et Classe Bonus, commenceront en semaine 3 et les informations seront communiquées individuellement par les personnes en charge des programmes. 

N'hésitez pas à me contacter à tout moment. Je tiens à vous remercier pour tout le soutien que vous m'avez apporté en 2025 et je me réjouis sincèrement de continuer à travailler de concert avec vous et de voir vos enfants continuer à s'épanouir.

SECONDARY SICK BAY

Secondary Sick Bay is a quiet and safe area attached to the Secondary Library and has its own bathroom. 

Students must come to sick bay, if injured or unwell.  If we need to contact you, we will call you from the phone no. 614 23351.  We may also text or email you if we have no received no reply from you.

Please ensure your contact details are up-to-date and please also ensure to provide other people as contacts (aunts, uncle, grandparents, family friends, etc.), if possible, for situations where you are not available for some reason.

If we have contacted you to pick up your child, please come to the Front Office and explain that your child is in Secondary Sick Bay. 

Ensure that you provide an up-to-date medical treatment plan if your child has anaphylaxis, asthma, epilepsy, or any other medical conditions the school needs to know about.  Please update medical plans if any details have changed or the medical plan is no longer required.  Forms are available through us on the number below.

We require parents’ permission to supply Panadol to students – so we will may also call you about this.  We do not have any other medication, unless supplied by the parent prior to requirement.  Please contact us about this, if you know that this will arise.  Secondary students can also carry a few tablets of Panadol (or antihistamines, etc.) in their backpacks – only enough for a couple of doses (in case someone steals things from their backpack).

Also, as a reminder, please do not send your child to school if they are unwell.  It is distressing for the student and they will be unable to focus on class work, do tests or do strenuous activity.

2nd Hand Uniform Shop – Donate your old uniforms and shop at the 2nd hand uniform shop. All sales from the shop go directly to the P&C Committee. Items available include hats, jackets, summer dresses, skirts, shirts, blouses and polos of various sizes. Only $5 per piece of clothing.
